How this is calculated

One purchase at the closing price on the start date, held to the end date with no further trading. Dividends are reinvested at the closing price on each payment date, not the ex-dividend date, because the cash does not exist until it is paid. Share counts change on split ex-dates. The annualised figure is a compound annual growth rate, which is the correct measure for a single contribution held over one period.
